The network had already wrapped filming of "Kourtney and Kim Take New York"; cameras not on Kim in Australia.
Kris Humphries reportedly found out from the media that Kim Kardashian, his wife of only 72 days, is divorcing him. But, he wasn’t the only ones close to the star who were taken by surprise by the news. E!, the cable channel that has aired several seasons of the myriad of reality shows starring Kim and her family seemed to have been taken by surprise, as well.Even the shows’ executive producer, Ryan Seacrest, didn’t have the full story this morning when the news broke -- though he was one of the first to confirm it. And now an E! spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter that network producers and executives are meeting today to discuss how to proceed as a result of the news.
Several topics are up for discussion. Both Kourtney and Kim Take New York and Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami have wrapped on shooting on their upcoming seasons. The New York series is set to premiere on Nov. 27.
Yet, Kim is on her way out of the country as part of her and her sisters’ work with Sears. And as of now, E!’s cameras aren’t joining them to capture the fallout of Kim’s divorce filing nor are there any plans to shoot more footage for those series.
A source tells THR that the New York show has filmed a scene in which the couple decides to “take a break.” Monday’s news instantly makes that ending dated. On top of that, rumors of the impending split have been building over the last week. And reportedly, Humphries stormed off during shooting and asked for a higher salary.
Additionally, the two-part wedding special that initially attracted more than 8 million viewers to its original airing in early October is scheduled to rerun Monday and Tuesday. An E! spokesperson tells THR that the meeting will include discussions on whether to continue re-airing the wedding specials.
Kardashian confirmed the news of her divorce on Monday morning. E! released a statement expressing both shock and support for the couple and the family. "All of us at E! are surprised and saddened by this news," it states. "And we send our support to Kim and Kris at this difficult time."
"The Kardashians have always been uniquely open with all aspects of their lives from joyous events to intimate moments to heartbreaking transitions. E! will continue to share the fascinating real lives and larger-than-life existence of this close-knit family."
we all knew it would never last, they barely even knew eachother.
Actress Lisa Rinna writes, "Keep your family lives private. Your wedding should never be on TV. Sad for them."
Kim Kardashian is filing for divorce a little more than two months after marrying NBA free agent, Kris Humphries, in a grand wedding in August worth millions of dollars and televised on E! for two nights in early October. The network’s news anchor, Giuliana Rancic was on the case and confirmed the news on Twitter. “It is true. Kim Kardashian filing for divorce,” she wrote on Monday morning.
Later, the cable channel that attracted more than 8 million viewers to the two-day TV event and airs the myriad Kardashian family reality shows issued the following statement.
All of us at E! are surprised and saddened by this news, and we send our support to Kim and Kris at this difficult time. The Kardashians have always been uniquely open with all aspects of their lives from joyous events to intimate moments to heartbreaking transitions. E! will continue to share the fascinating real lives and larger-than-life existence of this close-knit family
Others in Hollywood turned their attention to the impending divorce filing, as well.
In the case of Bravo’s EVP of Original Programming and Development and Watch What Happens Live host, Andy Cohen, the news was met with sarcasm and then he expressed wonder as to what they’d do next.
“Thanks for the entertainment, Kim Kardashian,” Cohen tweeted followed soon after with, “Do they have to return the gifts???”
Leave it to manners expert and The Real Housewives of New York’s LuAnn DeLesseps to know the answer to that. She tweeted, “Def return gifts or donate them to a charity and do some good!”
Former Days of Our Lives actress and Celebrity Apprentice contestant, Lisa Rinna, used the news as an indictment of reality television, writing, “Well I think a big lesson is being learned by all. Keep your family lives private your wedding should never be on tv. Sad for them.”
She acknowledges that she has been on reality television, most recently with her own relationship to actor Harry Hamlin on TVLand’s Harry Loves Lisa, but also wrote, “Marry someone because you LOVE them and want to spend the rest of your life with them! not so you can make 72 million and be more famous SAD.”
Actor Josh Malina (The West Wing, Scandal) gave some advice for newlyweds, “You need to gut through that whole 72-day itch thing.”
But, of course, he threw in a more humorous observation soon after: "...until anything do us part." #KardashianVows”
Questlove of the band The Roots tweeted the hilarious, “...…Wait, Kim Kardashian got married?” As if he escaped the initial wedding madness.
